Woodsman
In
the late 1940's, summer camp was divided into four provisional troops, each led
by a couple staff members. Mr. Woodworth and Mr. Woodin initially led the troop
assigned to this area, thus the name "Woodsman". In those days, this
area was comprised of eight four-cot tents erected on platforms. Later on, the
tent platforms were removed and lean-tos and the leader’s cabin were
constructed.
The Woodsman cabin was used as a winter camp for many years, especially after the lean-tos were built in 1955. However, in April of 1973 this building burned to the ground. It was suspected that a fire had not been put out completely by a group using the building the previous weekend. No blame was placed for they had been carefully checked out by the Camp Ranger before they left the site. This incident points out why it is so important to strictly adhere to established check-out procedures.
