Upper Cacner Lake
Upper
Cacner Lake was constructed in 1964, when Lower Cacner Lake was
enlarged. A
feature of the two lakes in series is that the upper lake water is
warmed for a while before it flows to the lower lake swimming area. (But rare is
the swimmer who makes note of the temperature difference! Cold is still cold!)
When Boyhaven was operated as a Boy Scout
Summer Camp, Upper Cacner Lake was
the "classroom" for Rowing, Canoeing and Fishing Merit Badges. And it
still provides a good place for practicing canoeing skills which are especially
important since many Scout Troops go on weekend and week-long canoe treks in the
Adirondacks or in the Canadian wilderness areas. Lessons learned here are very
helpful when you are paddling into the wind on big lakes.
At today’s Cub Summer Camp, Upper Cacner Lake is used primarily for fishing, a.k.a. worm-drowning. But once in a while, a boy gets a bite and he keeps coming back confident that today will be his "lucky day".
