Parade Field
The
Parade Field is located a hundred yards north of Carter Hall and is bounded by
Murray Lane, Barber Road and Pioneer Woods. The flagpole was dedicated on May
20, 1979 to Emory G. Milstrey, Schenectady County Council Properties Chairman
from 1973 to 1975. The plaque reads as follows: "Through his leadership we
will endure; Through his foresight we will continue; Through his wisdom we will
prosper". At the opposite end of the Parade Field stand three cedar trees
planted in 1974 on the occasion of the celebration of Camp Boyhaven’s 50th
Anniversary. Immediately in front of the flag pole stands a small brick pyramid
which housed the 50th Anniversary Time Capsule until it was opened on
August 21, 1999 at the celebration of Boyhaven’s 75th Anniversary.
The historical materials (Anniversary album, program and event patch) will be
returned to the capsule to rest until the year 2024, Boyhaven's 100th
Anniversary.
At the 75th Anniversary Celebration a new Time Capsule was unveiled to which was added a number and variety of items representing Scouting and Camp Boyhaven in 1999. The "Toonerville Trolley" is remembered in The Boyhaven Song and Schenectady's Troop 54 leaders chose it as their theme for the 75th Anniversary Time Capsule.
