Lower Cacner Lake

In 1934 the original little camp in the lower area by the Kaydeross Creek was enlarged by the purchase of Robert Cacner an additional 175 acres of adjacent land bordering on Middle Grove Road. In the same year, a hollow spot on Frink's Brook was selected as a natural place to dam the stream and make a better swimming area than the one down on the Kaydeross. In 1947, a higher dam was built which made the swimming area larger and deeper. In 1964, when the dam for Upper Cacner Lake was put in, some dredging of Lower Cacner Lake was done to stretch its boundaries to the present shorelines

Boyhaven's two lakes were named for Mr. Robert Cacner, who served as Council Executive for Schenectady County Council from 1944 to 1963. Mr. Cacner is the author of a pamphlet Lower Cacner Lake entitled "History of the Schenectady County Council" which documents early Scouting in our area and includes the names of many men and women who worked to make Boyhaven the Great Camp it is today. Re-prints of this pamphlet are available in the Camp Trading Post.
