Gilwell Field &
Cushing Leadership Development Center
"Wood Badge" is an
advanced leadership course which is given to adult Scout leaders. This course
was designed by Scouting's founder, Lord Robert S. S. Baden-Powell, and was
first held in England at a place called Gilwell Park. In 1979, when a Wood Badge
course was held here at Camp Boyhaven, this field or parade ground was named
"Gilwell Field".
This entire training area including Horsley Lodge, Gilwell Field and the campsites in the woods to the west is known as the "Peter Cushing Leadership Development Center", named for Mr. Peter Cushing who was President of the Schenectady County Council from 1973 through 1977.
