Deal Nature Lodge
The "Nature Lodge"
(a.k.a. "E-Con") is located immediately south of Lower Cacner Lake in
a small open field that overlooks the swimming area. The building was
constructed in 1972 by the Schenectady Rotary and dedicated to Bob Deal, a young
Scouter who lost his life at an early age. A handicap-access ramp, summertime
awning, and fresh coat of stain are recent improvements to the Lodge which
serves as a classroom for Cub Scout nature studies during the summer camp
season. Although the building is electrified, there is no need for artificial
lighting on sunny days for the roof is partially composed of translucent plastic
panels. The "all natural" and environmentally responsible Nature
Lodge!
In the "front yard"
stands the infamous Boyhaven Weather Rock. Unless, of course, there’s been a
tornado. Then it may be up by Norris Hall. Or down on the "lower
level" somewhere. Those who watch it closely claim it’s the most accurate
weather-predictor around. Well, maybe "predictor" is not the right
word. If it’s wet, it’s raining…?? If it’s swinging, the wind is
blowing? If it’s white, it’s snowing?? Meteorologists need not fear losing
their jobs!!
