The Crypt and
Frontier Campsites
The "Crypt"
camping area is, of course, named for the cryptozoon fossils which are located
nearby. Until recently, there were lean-tos in this area but to fill the urgent
need for summer camp housing for Cubs and Webelos Scouts, they were moved to the
upper level of camp. "Crypt" is now a nice, flat open area very
suitable for tent camping by a Boy Scout Troop, Venture Crew, or an adventurous
Webelos Den.
The "Frontier"
campsite has been in use since the late 1940's as it was one of the original
four provisional summer camp sites. This flat area of Camp still provides an
excellent place for camping in the "wilderness" just far enough from
civilization for a Troop or Patrol to practice for a backpacking trip into the
Adirondacks.
