Chapel-of-the-Pines
"A Scout is Reverent" is the twelfth of the Scout Laws. A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.
Construction
of the Chapel-of-the-Pines was a joint project of the Catholic, Protestant and
Jewish Committees of Schenectady County Council, BSA and was dedicated during a
Scout
Camporee
in June of 1966. Until that time, religious services were held in various camp
buildings. It was decided that an outdoor location would be more "in
tune" with holding religious services at a Scout Camp. The chapel bell was
donated by a Scouter who purchased it from a West Virginia railroad company. It
is still used to summon Scouts to worship services. The Chapel is always
"open" and serves as a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of Camp
Life.
