Carter Hall

Largest "tent" in Camp!   Carter Hall was constructed in 1964 to replace Norris Hall as the main camp dining facility. The building is named for Ralph Carter, the 14th President of Schenectady County Council, who served in this capacity from 1946 to 1960.

As you look at Carter Hall, it's apparent that the architect was inspired to design this building in the shape of a huge Scout tent. Carter Hall represents real progress at Camp Boyhaven as you reflect on the history of the camp dining facilities from the patrol "cook shacks" to cozy Norris Hall and finally to Carter Hall with a spacious and modern kitchen facility and room for over 200 diners. Many a fine meal has been served up in Carter Hall including the delicious and memorable roast beef dinner at the 1974 Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Camp Boyhaven. (Well, at least Herb RoesOne of two large fireplaces remembers the roast beef…).

Carter Hall is more than a dining facility, though. Its walls have witnessed many Troop Courts of Honor and large Pack gatherings as well as Cub Summer Camp all-hands activities. Sunday morning "Scouts Own" services are held in Carter Hall during the January Klondike Derby and Deep Freeze weekend. With the two large stone fireplaces a-blazin’, Carter Hall has often served as a warm and dry Scout refuge when Mother Nature has been particularly disagreeable.
