The Banker Buildings
There are two buildings at Camp named in honor of Louis G. Banker: "Banker One" and "Banker Two". Mr. Banker was a prominent citizen of Schenectady with a high regard and very warm heart for the Boy Scout Program. The "Banker Trust Fund" is responsible for the completion of many projects at Camp Boyhaven.
Banker
I, constructed in 1948, is located
on the upper level of Camp in the area to the east of Carter Hall known as the
"Pioneer" campsite. In close proximity to this building are both open
areas for tenting and several Adirondack lean-tos making it a favorite campsite
for larger groups. The cabin boasts a fine camp kitchen with a refrigerator and
propane stove and ample room for three or four cooks, bunkhouse sleeping space
for 16, and a wood stove for wintertime heat. The hike from the nearest parking lot is a relatively
short one, but Scouts may borrow two-wheeled carts from Ranger Gus with which to
transport gear to this outpost camp.
Banker
II, constructed in 1952,
is located on the lower level of camp, a short hike from the parking lot located
on Boyhaven Road just a tenth-or-two of a mile from the Route 29 turn-off. This
cabin's facilities include a refrigerator and propane cook-stove in a spacious kitchen, wood
stove for winter heat, and bunks for twenty Scouts and leaders. It is a favorite
winter lodge for those who like the "wilderness" area of camp. Banker
II is the only cabin at Camp with an indoor woodshed! The annual "Deep
Freeze" winter camp-out is held at Camp Boyhaven every January and Banker II
serves as the first aid station and warming hut for Scouts who do not come
sufficiently well prepared for tenting in the snow.
